smartAIS transponders from Vesper Marine win Pittman Innovation Award

Press Release

Auckland, New Zealand – Vesper Marine – SAIL Magazine’s Pittman Innovation Awards 2018 have announced Vesper Marine’s smartAIS technology as a winner in the electronics category. The Pittman Innovation Awards recognize outstanding new products created by the sailing industry.

“It's a great honor to be recognized by SAIL Magazine’s Pittman Award,” said Jeff Robbins, CEO, Vesper Marine. “Our smartAIS technology runs intelligent logic to keep boaters safe at sea. It also keeps our transponders updated with the latest and greatest features that Vesper Marine launches from time to time.”

Unlike ordinary AIS that only send and receive AIS signals, smartAIS transponders have built-in safety alarms that proactively warn boaters of potential collision situations, dragging anchor or man overboard situations. With WiFi capability, users can remote control their transponder from anywhere on board using a smartphone or tablet. The latest features from Vesper Marine can also be updated easily using these devices. A new addition is Vesper Marine's deckWatch App that enables smartAIS alarms on smartwatches.

Vesper Marine smartAIS transponders include WatchMate Vision, a fully standalone touchscreen transponder and XB-8000, a black box transponder.

According to SAIL Magazine, “The cherry on top for some sailors will be the fact that the new Vesper Marine deckWatch app puts many smartAIS (alarms) features on an Android Wear 2.0 watch. Finally, the secret sauce for anyone understandably leery about using mobile devices for safety lies in the fact that all audible alarms set up with the WatchMate or deckWatch apps will be loudly sounded by the transponder itself even if the mobile device is entirely shut down.”
