I'm a regular crew for the owner and always help out on the upkeep and new toys. He chose the WatchMate 850 based on the fact that it was one of the few approved for use here in the US, the fact that it had it's own display, and that with it's own GPS, it could act as a redundant GPS source.

I don't think he or I had any idea it would be as useful as we have learned at helping to integrate NMEA on the boat, and then output that in an easy to use format. This has been a pleasant surprise. The boat is a 40' sailboat that is based between Maryland and Maine throughout the summer. We're excited to have the additional information provided by the AIS WatchMate to increase the level of prudent & safe navigation, whether delivering or racing.
