Prioritised Targets

When operating in crowded situations a chart plotter or computer may display dozens of target icons on the screen. In places like the Bay of Panama or English Channel there may be over a hundred ships in the vicinity but many may pose no danger and there is no need to trigger an alarm or distract you from those ships that do require your attention. By prioritising vessels and alarms the WatchMate reduces clutter and helps you to focus on the vessels that are most important first.

Minimizes false alarms

Other products with CPA alarms often have a high rate of false alarms when operating in congested areas. The WatchMate is designed to minimize false alarms by providing alarm and vessel filtering capabilities. Filters can easily be switched on or off and there is always an indication of how many vessels are being filtered.

Alarm Profiles

When your situation changes, such as from offshore to coastal, you may wish to change your alarm settings. The WatchMate allows you to match alarm settings with your situation as quickly as your situation changes without having to go through complicated setup procedures. The WatchMate provides a single button selection for switching between Offshore, Coastal, Harbour or Anchored modes quickly and easily. Each profile can be customised and saved for future use.

Ultra-Low Power Consumption

Systems such as computers, chart plotters, and radars require substantially more power to operate than the WatchMate. As a result, they are often switched off during passages. Obviously a system that is turned off cannot provide you with critical warning information. The WatchMate is specifically designed to operate on ultra-low power. Since it consumes less than 100ma it can be left on at all times.

No Computer or Expensive Software Required

The WatchMate is a stand-alone instrument designed for reliability. Although it can be easily interfaced to computers and chart plotters, they are not necessary for its operation. The WatchMate combined with an AIS receiver/antenna and GPS are all you need. You don't need to buy, install, or maintain any additional components or software. In New Zealand, all WatchMate 's come packaged with the AIS receiver. If you are purchasing your WatchMate outside of New Zealand, please check with your dealer or Vesper Marine for available AIS receiver options.
