Our Background

Vesper Marine was established in 2007 to meet the collision avoidance needs of offshore sailors.  The company has evolved significantly since then. 

• We now manufacture and distribute AIS products to boat owners worldwide.  We now also provide customized commercial solutions based on our key AIS products.  All our products enable Commercial Fleets, Sail and Power Boat owners to monitor and be alerted to other marine traffic and hazards that they are in close proximity to, or more importantly on a collision course with.
• Vesper Marine see Collision Avoidance as a subset of safety focused marine electronics and has a wider vision of becoming a leading innovator of specialized safety systems and products for the marine industry.

Vesper Marine is a privately held company. In 2010 several new key shareholders came on board and one of these is the New Zealand government's own Venture Investment Fund (www.nzvif.com). Backed by unwavering support from our shareholders, Vesper Marine is on an accelerated growth path assisted by new market development and exciting product development initiatives.

Vesper Marine products have been winning key industry awards, including the Freeman K. Pittman award, Price Waterhouse Coopers Hi-Tech award and has also been nominated for the prestigious DAME award.  We are proud of these industry awards which recognize us for the quality and innovation we offer the market. However, we are even prouder of the many unsolicited customer accolades we receive on a regular basis for our customer support, product excellence and depth of AIS knowledge the team possess. Vesper Marine is unique. We design 100% of our AIS equipment. We manufacture it here in New Zealand where we can ensure its incredible performance and the highest product quality is achieved by our ISO 9001:2008 accredited factory.

Unlike most manufactures, we don't just repackage a box or incorporate an "AIS module" from someone else. There are many interactions within a complex radio system, so we designed ours from the ground up to meet the reliability needs of mariners around the world. The result is a product that far exceeds the internationally recognized specifications and certifications for AIS.  The extraordinary sensitivity of our AIS equipment has been adopted as a benchmark for AIS receivers. This means you'll get greater range and increased safety from a Vesper Marine AIS receiver or transponder.

With such highly specialized knowledge of AIS and the ongoing uptake of the technology worldwide Vesper Marine’s AIS solutions are also being incorporated in naval and commercial fleet operations including some unique marine based infrastructure projects for regional and national authorizes.

Where we started

Vesper Marine was founded by Deirdre Schleigh and Jeff Robbins.

Deirdre and Jeff spent seven years sailing offshore and cruising aboard Vesper. As a result, they are passionate about system simplicity and ease of use. Their background in product design and first-hand experience voyaging across oceans has created the valuable insight that collision avoidance is too important to be buried deep in the menus of today's complex marine electronics. When faced with critical decision making under difficult circumstances people need to have fast access to the right information.

The AISWatchMate range of products are the result of their desire for powerful, yet simple and affordable, collision warning systems that are easy to use and consume so little power they can be switched on all the time.
